Are Zodiac Signs Bullshit? Hidden Benefits?

Many times when I talk to my father he mentions zodiac signs and I’m wondering how much bullshit there is to this. Well, I did some digging on them and discovered some interesting stuff.

There is some scientific evidence that zodiac signs have some truth to them based on when someone is born, which increases the chance of certain personality traits.

Keep reading and I’ll share where zodiac signs came from, scientific evidence that they have, how a moon reading is different, why people believe in horoscopes and the largest benefit they give.

Where did Horoscope Readings Get Their Start?

It’s estimated that zodiac signs got their start in ancient Babylonian in 1900 BC. Horoscope readings got their start later in ancient Greek culture.

Ancient Babylonians (near Iraq) looked up and noticed that the stars moved in patterns. Sometimes these stars and the moon could affect the earth.

It is true that the moon can affect the tides. These ancient scientists started to study the stars and moon and thus the zodiac signs were born.

Using their studies they were able to predict things like solar eclipses (it’s when the moon blocks out sunlight).

Horoscope readings got their start from ancient Greek culture. Instead of looking at changing seasons or gods when it comes to the constellations, they thought they brought a certain character. Being born in a season could thus influence someone’s character. They also added mythological tales to these signs.

Then precession was discovered around 2,000 years after the ancient Babylonians. This means the earth is always changing due to gravity and is rotating on an axis. Due to precision your sun sign is attached to the year you were born.

There is even a theory that the ancient Stonehedge landmark was created due to astrology and reading the stars.

A funny joke about Stonehedge is you know what beats it? A Paperhedge.

How much Science is there with Astrology and Zodiac Signs?

There is no doubt a correlation between science and astrology with navigation and reading seasons.

Sailors have used the map of the stars for direction such as using the north star. There is even some evidence according to this source HERE, that when someone was born increases the chance of having a certain personality.

For example, people born during the months of January, February, and March are more likely to suffer from schizophrenia. If someone was born during June, July, or August they have an increased chance of getting down syndrome.

The fact is according to this source HERE, nearly half of all Americans feel the connection between astrology and human experiences is very or sort of scientific.

Instead of asking if zodiac signs are bullshit, a better question might be if I can help someone?

Can it help someone look at something differently? Maybe it can help someone with why they are having an emotionally hard time. If anything it sure can be entertaining. I just got a moon reading done at this place HERE and it was interesting.

If you’re “really” brave these people HERE can give you information on who your soul mate is based on when you were born.

What is the Difference Between a Moon Reading and Zodiac Signs?

The zodiac refers to one of the 12 constellations of the zodiac that the sun passes through. Depending on your birthdate there are 12 different signs.

I was born in April (actually April Fools Day, which I’m proud of) so I would have the sign of Aries. Funny enough there is speculation that Aries (my sign) was the first zodiac sign.

Since the zodiac refers to the sun passing through 1 of the 12 constellations your horoscope is related to the sun.

A moon reading is the opposite of the sun and as you can guess could be darker. It refers to 1 of the 12 constellations the moon was at when you were born. A moon reading is going to be different than a horoscope.

Some people feel a moon reading is more accurate than a zodiac horoscope because the moon moves more quickly through a constellation and is a certain sign for 2.5 days.

If you are interested (and brave) in discovering a free moon reading you can check this place out HERE. I just did mine and it was different than I thought it would be.

If you are SUPER brave this place HERE can give you ideas on your soul mate based on when you were born.

Why do People Believe in Zodiac Signs?

Humans have looked up to the stars for guidance for as long as anyone can remember. Even the Bible has references to the stars such as….

Wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

Matthew 2:1-1

Nowadays the stars might have been replaced by Google and Youtube, but we humans are always looking to understand things. We just want answers right?

Apart from guidance on a journey, horoscopes can have positive effects. According to the VERY famous marketing guru Gary Vee if he could create a drug it would be self-awareness.

Self-awareness is the knowledge of one’s own character, feelings, motives, and desires. If looking up at the stars for horoscopes and moon readings can help someone be “a little” more self-aware then that could be a VERY good and positive thing.

I think the MAIN benefit could be giving you another perspective and this means another way to look at things.

Of course, I’m a HUGE fan of tasting new things, experimenting, and risking failure. Recently, I just got back from 3 months of getting lost in Europe and it was one of the most valuable things I’ve ever done.

Being open-minded and doing things you don’t normally do to get out of “your routine” can be VERY positive.

Conclusion

After just finishing Annie Duke’s book Thinking in Bets where everything is based on odds, there is a higher chance that zodiac signs and moon readings are more accurate and not “as much” bullshit as I thought they were.

What makes reading the stars and astronomy so interesting is it’s a gray area, meaning it’s NOT concrete how accurate they “really” are.

Still, they can be very entertaining and I’ve gotten a little warmer toward them than I used to be.

I hope this blog post on zodiac signs and if they are bullshit was helpful or “at least” entertaining. Bye for now.
